Combat in StarRupture is unavoidable — Rupture events will test your defenses regardless of how optimized your production is. This guide covers everything: weapons available, enemy types and their weaknesses, how to automate ammo so you're never caught empty, and when to unlock the Armory.

Weapons Overview

StarRupture has three primary weapon categories, each suited to different combat scenarios:

PistolStandard Ammo

Starting weapon. Effective against basic alien types. Low damage against armored variants.

RifleStandard Ammo / Piercing Rounds

Mid-game weapon. Higher fire rate than pistol. Unlocked via Griffith Blue Corporation.

ShotgunBuckshot Ammo

Short range, high damage. Best against grouped enemies and Rupture swarms.

GrenadeCrafted (Ignitium + Chemicals)

Area damage. Effective against armored enemies and the Goliath boss.

TurretStandard Ammo

Automated base defense. Place on perimeter walls. Requires steady ammo supply.

Enemy Types & Weaknesses

Basic Aliens

Fast-moving, low-health alien creatures that appear during early Rupture events. Standard Ammo is effective. Kill priority: prevent them from reaching your production machines, as they can deal structure damage on contact.

Armored Enemies

Mid and late-game aliens with damage-resistant shells. Standard Ammo deals 30–50% reduced damage against armored variants. Use Piercing Rounds (Wolfram Wire + Standard Ammo in the Ammo Press) for full damage. These enemies appear in outpost areas and during mid-game Rupture events.

Infection Carriers

Aliens that generate infection clouds on death and during movement. Kill them at range — getting too close to a dying Carrier exposes you to infection. They are not particularly tanky; Standard Ammo works if you maintain distance.

Goliath (Boss)

The Goliath is a large armored boss that appears during high-intensity Rupture events. It has very high health and can destroy perimeter walls in 2–3 hits. Strategy:

  • Engage from maximum range with a Rifle and Piercing Rounds
  • Throw grenades when it stops moving (during attack animations)
  • Kite it around obstacles rather than standing and fighting
  • Keep turrets targeting it — every automated hit matters
  • Do not let it reach your inner production ring — walls will not stop it for long

How to Automate Ammo Production

Running out of ammo during a Rupture event is a factory-killer. Automate Standard Ammo before you have turrets, not after. The full automated chain:

Sulfur Extractor → Refinery → Sulfuric Acid
Sulfuric Acid + Calcium → Chemical Reactor → Gunpowder
Gunpowder + Iron Casings → Ammo Press → Standard Ammo

This chain requires Selenian Level 9 for the Refinery. Until then, craft ammo manually using the Fabricator. Use the Production Calculator to size your automated ammo line against the number of turrets you plan to run.

Rule of thumb: Each turret consumes approximately 2–4 Standard Ammo per second during an active Rupture. For 4 turrets running a 60-second Rupture, you need ~600 ammo in reserve. Plan your production line accordingly.

The Armory — What It Unlocks

The Armory is unlocked via Griffith Blue Corporation progression. Once built, it provides access to:

  • Piercing Rounds recipe — essential for armored enemies
  • Grenade recipe (requires Ignitium + Chemicals)
  • Turret V2 — higher fire rate and range than base Turret
  • Ammo storage upgrades for extended Rupture events

Check the current Griffith Blue terminal and your power grid before prioritizing the Armory. Wind Turbine V1 is currently listed at Moon Energy Level 9, while Turret V2 power and combat values should be confirmed in your live tooltip before you size a defense line.

Grenade Crafting

Grenades require Ignitium — a rare resource found in cave systems and volcanic areas. Ignitium is not renewable via excavation; you find it through exploration. See the Ignitium Guide for locations.

Grenade = Ignitium (×2) + Chemicals (×1) + Iron Casing (×1)

Craft grenades sparingly — Ignitium is limited. Save them for Goliath encounters and large armored groups rather than using them on basic aliens.
